Outreach and Mission (local)

The Local Missions Team is a small group working along with many others in our congregation to provide ministry or service to those in need in the community of Gettysburg and some surrounding areas. This past year, during 2024, we helped with the Food Pantry, the Homeless Shelter, the Adams Rescue Mission, the Gettysburg Soup Kitchen, Gettysburg CARES, Ruth’s Harvest, the Fruitbelt Farm Workers, the Adams County Prison, the Habitat for Humanity and the Curtis Peace Essay Contest.

I hope to increase our participation in the above missions in our local community and start ministering in other ongoing local mission projects that we have not been involved in recently. With the help of many of you, we have been serving several low-income people in the community through our Blessing Box.

Local Missions Elder, Richard Hagee

CHRISTMAS MISSION FAIR

Sharing the Gifts of the Christmas Season! Despite adverse weather and a compressed schedule, the Christmas Mission Fair provided a fun chance for our community to gather, enjoy food and fellowship and help raise funds to support Mission Team priorities for 2024. With a full slate of activities including the Silent Auction, Presbyterian Coffee Project, Direct Mission Support Gifts, children’s coin games, holiday music and food/bake sales, there was truly something for everyone! This year we supported the Yucatan Mexico Mission Trip, the South Carolina Habitat for Humanity Mission Trip, the High School Youth Mission Trip, Heifer International, Rise Against Hunger, the SCCAP Food Pantry, Gettysburg CARES Homeless Shelter, the GPC Kenya Mission Trip, as well as various CoMission Workers around the world. Many thanks to everyone who donated items, prepared and served food, staffed the games, shared their musical talents, and to those who gave so generously! Extra coffee, tea, and chocolates from Presbyterian Coffee Project will be made available on January 28th in Fellowship Hall.

WORKCAMP

In 2024, the high school youth attended a mission project through TeamEffort Youth Mission Trips. 13 youth and 5 adult leaders traveled to Seymour, TN, just northwest of Gatlinburg. This summer was spent working on a local mission agency, Live It. Youth worked on building a ramp, installing fencing, repairing handrails, clearing land, and various other projects. This new organization had us work as a whole youth group, building connections together as we kept our hearts, minds and souls “Kingdom Minded”.
